Why check a Singapore company

A clean ACRA profile is only the start

Registering a company in Singapore is quick, and a business profile shows who the directors and shareholders are on paper. It does not show who really controls the company, whether its people have been sued or made bankrupt, or whether it has done what it claims.

A company background check pulls together corporate records, court and insolvency sources, regulators' registers, sanctions lists and media in English and other regional languages, then looks at the directors and owners behind it.

Where the company has links to Indonesia or elsewhere in Southeast Asia, our Jakarta team checks the other side too.

What we check

A company background check in Singapore covers

  • Company registration, history of names, addresses and filings (ACRA)
  • Directors, shareholders and changes over time
  • Beneficial owners behind nominee directors and holding companies
  • Litigation in Singapore courts involving the company and its key people
  • Insolvency, winding-up and bankruptcy notices
  • Regulatory registers and enforcement actions where relevant (for example financial services)
  • Sanctions, politically exposed persons and adverse media
  • Related companies in Indonesia and the region, and an on-site check of the address when needed

How we help

Depth matched to the deal

Scope is calibrated to the size and sensitivity of the transaction. Most reviews combine a structured desktop enquiry with targeted human-source work where the record runs out.

Red-flag checks

Fast checks, obvious warning signs

Sanctions, watchlists and adverse media on the company and its key people, in English and local languages.

Level 1

Structured desktop enquiry

Company background and incorporation, directors and shareholding history, litigation and regulatory history, and financial health indicators.

Ownership

Beneficial ownership

Ultimate beneficial owners, related-party structures and undisclosed interests, traced through registries such as ACRA and AHU. See who really owns a company.

Level 2 · reputational

Discreet human-source enquiry

Market and reputational perspectives, clarification of inconsistencies and context the public record does not give.

Ground truthing

On-site verification

Confirms the business on paper matches the business on the ground: premises, operations and scale.

Frequently asked questions

What clients ask before engaging

What is a company background check in Singapore?

A review of a Singapore company and the people behind it: registration and filings, directors and shareholders, beneficial owners, litigation, insolvency, regulatory record, sanctions and reputation.

Isn't an ACRA business profile enough?

It confirms registration details on paper. It does not show who really controls the company, court or insolvency history of its people, or its reputation in the market.

How long does a company background check take?

A desktop check usually takes around 9 working days. Deeper reviews with discreet enquiries take around three weeks, depending on scope.

Will the company know we are checking it?

No. Company checks are discreet and do not need the subject's consent or participation.

Do you check the directors and shareholders as well?

Yes. Key people are checked for litigation, bankruptcy, other directorships, sanctions, political exposure and adverse media.

Can you check related companies in Indonesia?

Yes. Our Jakarta team checks Indonesian entities and people directly, using AHU, OSS and court records in Bahasa Indonesia.

Does this replace legal due diligence?

No. It complements legal and financial work by covering ownership, integrity and reputational risk.

How much does a company background check cost?

It depends on the number of entities and people and the depth required. Send us the company name and we will quote within one working day.
